Meet Our Antiques Expert
![]() |
We’re happy to introduce Barbara Eash, our new antiques appraiser, to Reminisce and Reminisce EXTRA. Barbara is a certified personal property appraiser, specializing in the appraisals of antiques and collectibles. She has testified as an expert witness in probate courts, taught classes in antiques and managed two antiques shops.
“Whether it’s jewelry, glassware, toys or tools, everything has a story,” Barbara says. She’ll share the stories behind those family heirlooms and help us all learn a little more about the things we’ve grown up loving. And while she’ll give estimated values, she realizes that many items have far more sentimental value than “book” value to their owners.
To send a request for an appraisal, see our Contributor Guidelines.
Here are Barbara’s suggestions for sending in information on an item for appraisal:
- Send sharp, evenly lit color photos of the top, sides and underside of the item, showing all pattern detail. Write your name and contact information lightly on the backs of any photos you submit.
- In photographs, include the entire piece; do not cut off the top finial or the bottom feet on furniture.
- Complete measurements do matter. Give height, width, depth and/or diameter. Mention any roughness, chipping or crazing.
- Note any names, logos, stickers or mold numbers, even partial ones. Include a copy of basic information that might be in an accompanying instruction booklet (model number and the like). Share any history of the piece, even if hearsay.
